When the grandkids started showing off their smartphones, I scoffed, thinking it was all fancy nonsense. Turns out, though, there’s more to this digital world than meets the eye. Even ol’ Charlie here had to learn a thing or two.
I remember the day I stumbled upon YouTube, discovering videos on everything from fixing a carburetor to old Westerns. Suddenly, the TV didn’t hold much appeal anymore. Now, I’ve got a channel full of classic rock concerts and vintage car shows, enough entertainment to last a lifetime.
Then came this internet writing lark, thanks to the grandson. At first, I thought it absurd, but then I realized it gave me a platform to share my thoughts, to keep my mind sharp. Who knows, maybe I’ll even find a few likeminded souls along the way.
Of course, I’m still wary of the dark side, all those cyber crooks lurking in the shadows. Still, I’ve learned to embrace technology, in moderation. It might not replace the feel of grease under my fingernails, but it sure keeps the boredom at bay.
