You know, there’s always been somethin’ callin’ me westward, ever since I watched John Wayne take on the bad guys on the big screen. So when I retired, I figured, why not give the cowboy lifestyle a go? Might’ve seemed crazy to some, but hell, I earned the right to live how I wanted.
So off I went, bought me a rundown ranch near Cheyenne, and set to work makin’ it shine again. Learned the ways of the range, broke a few horses, wrangled cattle till the stars came out. Damn, it felt good to get dirty, feel the earth between my fingers once more.
Course, livin’ alone ain’t so simple, even for a man like me. Gotta admit, I missed the camaraderie of the mill, the banter and the laughs. That’s when I met Ruby, the saloon owner. She showed me the meaning of friendship out here, taught me a thing or two about holdin’ my own too.
Then came the wildfire, swept across the plains like Judgment Day itself. Thought I’d lost everything, but the neighbors rallied round, helped us save the place. Guess that’s the spirit of the West, the bond that keeps us standin’. And though I might be older, I’m far from done ridin’ the open road. Just gotta remember, no matter where life takes ya, it’s the people by yer side that truly count.
