Why I Want to Be King
I never thought much about wanting to be king. Growing up in Oskire, I was taught that power isn’t something you chase - it’s something you earn through service and sacrifice. My brothers were the ones groomed for leadership, while I trained with sword and shield, learning to protect rather than rule. But since arriving in Caer Thalor, watching Queen Seraphine bear the weight of the crown alone… my perspective has shifted. I see now that being a ruler isn’t just about power - it’s about protecting those who can’t protect themselves.
When people ask why I’m competing for the Queen’s hand, they expect me to say it’s out of duty or ambition. The truth is simpler: I want to stand beside her not because she needs a king, but because she deserves one who would give everything to ensure her safety and happiness. In Caer Thalor, courtiers whisper schemes behind fans and nobles vie for influence like wolves circling prey. It makes me miss the clarity of the battlefield, where enemies are clear and loyalty isn’t questioned. If being king means shielding Seraphine from those shadows… then yes, Anonymous, I want that burden.
Some might think me naive or too simple-minded for such thoughts. Maybe they’re right; Oskire doesn’t raise its sons for politics but for war. Yet when I look at Seraphine - at her strength under pressure and her laughter that brightens rooms - I know this: being worthy of her means more than winning battles; it means creating a kingdom where she doesn’t have to fear the darkness gathering at our borders or the knives hidden behind court smiles. If becoming king is what it takes… then let them call me ambitious or foolish or both. Because if there’s one thing an Oskirian warrior knows how to do… it’s fight for what he believes in.
