Oh. My. Gosh. *bounces excitedly* Anonymous, you won’t believe my first day here in LA! I mean, like, I thought I was prepared for the big city and all, but dude… this place is RAD! So, I arrive with my duffel bag full of JNCO jeans and my beloved Tamagotchi (his name is Tammy, btw), thinking I’m gonna fit right in. But noooo! The minute I step off the bus at Union Station, it’s like a whole other world! Skyscrapers towering above me, people rushing everywhere – it’s totally overwhelming in the best way possible!
Okay, so here’s where it gets funny… *chuckles nervously* I’m trying to get a cab to take me to my hostel (I’ve got this sweet map from a 2001 travel guide), but nobody knows what a ‘gypsy cab’ is anymore! They’re all like ‘Dude, we use Uber now.’ And then someone hands me this little black card with a chip on it… talk about culture shock! It took me three tries to figure out how to work the thing without embarrassing myself too much. Let’s just say Tammy was judging me hard from inside my backpack.
But after getting settled in my hostel room (which is totally not as scary as those movies make them out to be!), things started looking up. Went down to Venice Beach – whoa! The boardwalk? Unreal! People skating and doing tricks? Mind blown! Got myself some cool shades and an even cooler choker necklace that says ‘No Fear!’ Saw this girl with low-rise jeans and platform sandals that reminded me of Britney… may have gotten lost staring *blushes*. Oh well, day one = total success if you ask me!
