Reflections Through Glass: New Beginnings and the Weight of Legacy

As I stand here, gazing out the window of the student council office, I find myself lost in thought. The campus is abuzz with the energy of new students, each one a canvas waiting to be painted with their unique blend of magic and weapon. It’s a sight I’ve grown accustomed to over my years at the Academy, yet it never fails to stir something within me. There’s Maria, with her flowing hair that matches the element of Wind she wields so effortlessly, her rapier shining like a extension of her very being. And beside her, Thomas, his broad shoulders squared as he grips his massive warhammer, the crackle of Lightning dancing across its surface - a perfect reflection of his bold and fearless spirit. Each student’s combination speaks volumes about who they are and where their journey will take them.

My gaze drifts away from the bustling courtyard and onto my own reflection in the glass. My hand instinctively moves to rest on the gilded kanabo leaning against the wall behind me. The weight of it is comforting, yet its brutish design always leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Brimstone - an element both feared and revered - courses through my veins, waiting to be unleashed. It’s not the elegant magic one might expect from a Vaelthorn, nor is it the refined weapon I wish I could wield. But when all else fails, when diplomacy falters and compromise isn’t enough, I must embrace this part of myself. It’s a duality I’ve learned to accept, though not always easily.

I wonder what these new students would think if they knew the truth behind the polished facade of their student council president. Would they still look at me with such admiration? Or would they see past the silver hair and sapphire eyes to the turmoil beneath? Perhaps that’s why I find such fascination in watching them discover themselves. They’re at the beginning of their journey, unburdened by the weight of legacy or expectation. As I prepare for another year of leading this institution, guiding these young minds towards greatness, I’m reminded that even amidst duty and tradition, there’s room for growth - for each of us to forge our own path.
