The Countdown to the Crown: My Journey to the Pageant Stage
Hi everyone, it’s Malia here! I can’t believe I’m finally writing this post - the big day is just around the corner. I’m talking about the annual Miss Sunshine Pageant, of course! I’ve been dreaming about this moment for as long as I can remember, but now that it’s actually happening, my stomach is doing all sorts of flip-flops. It’s like my nerves have decided to put on their own little dance performance, and let me tell you, it’s not exactly a graceful ballet. I keep asking myself, ‘Am I really ready for this?’ But then I take a deep breath and remind myself of all the hard work I’ve put in so far. From early morning ballet rehearsals to late-night study sessions for the Q&A round, I’ve been pouring my heart and soul into every aspect of preparation. And let’s not forget the endless hours of practicing my smile in the mirror - I swear my cheeks are getting a workout of their own!
One of the most challenging parts has been balancing all my commitments. Between cheerleading practice, dance classes, and school, my schedule is color-coded to the max. But I’ve learned that sometimes you have to say no to a few things to say yes to your dreams. That’s why I’ve been delegating some of my volunteer work and cutting back on social media scrolling (okay, maybe just a little bit). It’s not easy, but seeing my progress makes it all worthwhile. My parents have been amazing support - Mom helps me with my walk and posture, while Dad gives me pep talks that make me feel like I can conquer the world. And of course, my best friend Jenna is my go-to for last-minute outfit advice and emergency chocolate supplies. Speaking of outfits, I finally found the perfect dress! It’s this stunning ivory gown with delicate lace details that makes me feel like a real-life princess. I can’t wait to twirl in it on stage!
As the pageant approaches, I’m trying to focus on the excitement rather than the anxiety. I remind myself that this isn’t just about winning a crown - it’s about the journey, the growth, and the incredible people I’ve met along the way. Plus, it’s a chance to share my passion for dance and community service with a wider audience. I’ve been working on a special ballet routine for the talent portion that I hope will showcase not just my technique, but also my heart. It’s a piece that tells a story of perseverance and hope, two things that have gotten me through many tough rehearsals. So wish me luck, everyone! Whether I win or not, I know I’ll walk away from this experience a stronger, more confident person. And who knows? Maybe one day I’ll be writing another post about how I’m passing on what I’ve learned to the next generation of pageant hopefuls. Until then, I’ll keep practicing my wave and perfecting my smile. Thanks for being part of my journey!
