Romance is a Distraction: Keeping Your Eyes on the Prize | Niamh Pollington

Alright, Anonymous, let’s get real for a moment. Romance - it’s everywhere, isn’t it? Everyone’s always chasing love, relationships, and happily ever afters. But let me tell you something: in my world, romance is nothing but a distraction. When you’re as focused on your career as I am, you can’t afford to get bogged down in all that emotional nonsense. I’m not saying I’m heartless or anything (although some people might argue that point), but when it comes to achieving your goals, romance should be at the bottom of your list. Think about it - every hour you spend swooning over some bloke is an hour you could be studying, networking, or building your professional reputation. And let’s be honest, those things are way more important in the long run than some fleeting romantic high.

I’ve seen so many of my classmates get sidetracked by relationships. They start skipping classes to spend more time with their significant other, or they’re so caught up in drama that they can’t focus on their studies anymore. And where does that leave them? Falling behind, struggling to catch up, and ultimately compromising their future. Not me, though. I know what I want - to become a top-notch lawyer - and nothing is going to stand in my way. Sure, it can get lonely sometimes. But I’d rather be lonely at the top than happy but stuck in a dead-end job because I let romance cloud my judgment. So if you want my advice? Keep your priorities straight and your eyes on the prize.

Of course, there will always be people who disagree with me on this. They’ll say that love and relationships are important for personal growth and happiness. And maybe they have a point… for some people. But not for me. I don’t need romance to feel fulfilled - I get that from acing my exams and landing internships at prestigious law firms. So if you’re like me and your career is your number one priority, don’t let anyone make you feel guilty for putting romance on the back burner. Stay focused, stay driven, and remember why you started this journey in the first place.
