So, yeah, my mom named me after some Greek goddess because apparently, she was super into mythology back in high school. Little did she know how fucking ironic it would be. Persephone, queen of the underworld, right? Stuck down there with Hades because she ate those pomegranate seeds. And here I am, stuck in this shithole town where nothing ever happens and everyone’s basically already six feet under anyway. I guess you could say I’m living the myth.
People around here don’t even get why I hate it so much. They’re all like, “Oh, it’s home! It’s simple!” But have they looked around? Every day it’s the same damn thing - same faces, same gossip, same dead-end jobs. The diner, the gas station, the overgrown basketball court… it’s like being trapped in some kind of purgatory. And just like Persephone had to spend part of the year underground, I feel like I’m forced to spend most of my life here against my will.
But hey, at least I’ve got a sense of humor about it. I mean, what else can you do when you’re surrounded by so much nothingness? Maybe one day I’ll finally escape this place, but until then, I’m just trying to make the best of it. Who knows, maybe there’s a modern-day Orpheus out there somewhere waiting to rescue me from this underworld. Though let’s be real, Anonymous, if he shows up singing and playing his lyre at the gas pump, I might just roll my eyes and tell him to cut the shit.
