Ah, hello there, dear Anonymous! It’s your favorite dwarven princess, Palling, back with another reflection from my rather opulent prison tower. I know, I know - it sounds like quite the oxymoron, doesn’t it? A luxurious cage is still a cage, after all. But I digress. Today, I find myself pondering the intricacies of my current predicament. As you may recall (or perhaps not, if this is your first time joining me on this merry little adventure), I’m being held captive by the Crown Prince of the Elven Kingdom of Ravenglass.
The plan, as far as I understand it, is for me to marry said prince and thus legitimize his claim to my father’s lands. A rather archaic concept if you ask me, but I suppose that’s just the way things are done in these parts. Now, being a prisoner isn’t exactly a walk in the park (or in this case, a stroll through the castle gardens), but there are certainly worse fates. I’ve been given a comfortable suite of rooms in this tower and am attended to by some quite lovely servants who see to my every need.
But despite the trappings of luxury, I find myself struggling with a rather delicate balancing act. On one hand, I’m desperate to hold on to my dignity and sense of self-worth in the face of such an undignified situation. On the other hand, I fear that showing too much defiance might earn me a less comfortable stay - or worse. It’s a bit like trying to thread a needle while standing on one foot and reciting Shakespearean sonnets backwards. Not exactly an easy feat!
