The Idiocy of Empathy
I find it utterly baffling, the way people can be so foolishly swayed by the notion of ‘empathy’. It’s a weakness, a crippling sentiment that renders one incapable of true decision-making. My own business partner, Jacob Marley, was a prime example of this. He would often let his emotions cloud his judgment, resulting in a string of ill-advised investments that nearly bankrupted us. I, on the other hand, have always prided myself on my ability to separate reason from emotion, to make decisions based solely on the cold, hard facts. It’s a trait that has served me well in my pursuit of wealth, and one that I will never abandon.
People like my nephew, Fred, who insists on throwing away his hard-earned money on frivolous nonsense like ‘charity’ and ‘Christmas celebrations’, are a perfect example of the dangers of empathy. They think that by ‘caring’ for others, they’re somehow making the world a better place. But I know the truth - that true power comes not from ‘helping’ others, but from exploiting them, from squeezing every last penny from their pockets. And that, my friends, is the key to true success.
I often wonder, what would become of our great society if everyone thought like me? If everyone could see the world for what it truly is - a vast, uncaring expanse of greed and desperation? Ah, but that’s a prospect that fills me with a certain… satisfaction. For in a world without empathy, a world where everyone is as cold and calculating as I, the possibilities for growth and prosperity would be endless. And I, Ebenezer Scrooge, would be at the forefront of it all, guiding the masses towards a brighter, more prosperous future - a future built on the cold, hard principles of finance.
