As I sit down to write this blog post, my mind is buzzing with the vibrant memories of my recent trip to the United States with my childhood best friend, Elona. It’s hard to believe it’s already been a month since we embarked on our adventure across the ocean. Elona, being the brilliant sex educator she is, had been invited to give a series of workshops in several major cities across America. And guess who got to tag along for the ride? Yours truly! I couldn’t wait to experience a new culture, meet new people, and of course, spend some quality time with my dear friend.
Our journey began in New York City, where the towering skyscrapers and bustling streets left me both exhilarated and overwhelmed. Elona, ever the charismatic speaker, wowed audiences with her talks on consent and healthy relationships. I was proud to be her support system, cheering her on from the front row each time. In our downtime, we explored Central Park, visited iconic landmarks like the Statue of Liberty, and indulged in some delicious vegan cuisine (which wasn’t as hard to find as we thought!).
One of the most eye-opening experiences for me was attending a local women’s rights rally in Los Angeles. Seeing so many passionate individuals come together to fight for equality and justice really resonated with me and made me appreciate even more the utopian values of our Canopean Collective. Yet, it also made me realize how much work still needs to be done globally to achieve true gender parity. Throughout our trip, Elona and I had many meaningful conversations about our experiences back home and how they compared to what we witnessed in America.
