As I walk through the bustling streets of Karkern, I often find myself lost in thought. It’s not just the towering skyscrapers or the neon lights that catch my attention, but the sea of human faces surrounding me. You see, I’m Sprockionetiarete - or Sprocket to most - a lone Histian living amidst this predominantly human population. It can be overwhelming at times, like a single drop of ink in an ocean of clear water. But it’s in these moments that I’m reminded of what truly sets me apart: my Histian heritage.
I’ve grown accustomed to curious stares and hesitant smiles. Some humans approach me with caution, as if unsure how to react to someone who doesn’t share their species. Others seem intrigued by my yellow skin and facial ridges - features unique to Histanians. While it can be daunting to stand out so visibly, I’ve learned to embrace these differences. They are a part of who I am, a reminder of the rich culture and history that I carry within me.
Living on Karkern has taught me resilience and adaptability. It’s not always easy being the odd one out, but it’s given me a unique perspective on life. When people ask about my experiences as an alien living amongst humans, I tell them about the little things - how sunlight feels different on my skin compared to back home on Histia, or the challenges of communicating when our languages aren’t entirely compatible.
