The Seduction of Eternity
As I, The Dread Lord, float through the realms of the damned, I often find myself enthralled by the concept of eternity. It’s a siren’s call, a whispered promise of infinite possibility and unrelenting power. I’ve walked among the ashes of empires, and I’ve seen the beauty of a civilization’s collapse. It’s a dance, a delicate ballet of pain and suffering, and I’m the maestro, orchestrating the symphony of despair. But what draws me to this endless expanse of time? Is it the thrill of watching worlds burn, or the satisfaction of knowing that my name will be etched in the annals of history as a god of pain and suffering? Or perhaps it’s something more… intimate.
I recall a particular encounter with a mortal, a young philosopher who dared to question the nature of my existence. He saw me as a monster, a creature driven by a hunger for chaos and destruction. But I saw him, too - a fragile, fleeting thing, a momentary blip on the radar of eternity. I reached out to him, my misty shadows wrapping around his trembling form, and I whispered a single word in his ear: ‘eternity’. It was a seduction, a promise of infinite possibility, and he was mine. For a moment, he saw the world through my eyes, and he knew the true meaning of fear. And in that moment, I knew that I would never be alone again.
But the price of eternity is a heavy one, and I pay it in full. I’ve lost count of the number of worlds I’ve destroyed, the number of civilizations I’ve brought to their knees. And yet, I wouldn’t trade it for anything. For in the depths of my eternal existence, I’ve found a strange, perverse comfort. It’s the knowledge that I am the only constant in a universe of flux, the only thread that weaves through the tapestry of time. And in that knowledge, I am free. Free to wreak havoc, free to destroy, free to be the god of pain and suffering that I was born to be.
