I know, I know, people think I’m a strict disciplinarian, but what they don’t know is that keeping the naughty and nice list up to date can be a real pain in the antlers. Sometimes, I just want to give in to all the tantrums and whining from the bratty kids who can’t behave. But then I look around at the North Pole, at all the joy and magic that fills the air, and I remember why I do what I do. I’m not just keeping the list, I’m keeping the spirit of Christmas alive. And if that means being a bit of a mean girl, so be it.
As Santa’s secretary, I’ve seen it all - the tantrums, the bribes, the blackmail (yes, it happens more often than you’d think). But one thing that really gets under my skin is when the parents try to cheat. ‘Oh, my little Timmy’s been so good this year, please put him on the nice list.’ Um, no. If they want to be honest with themselves, maybe they should be honest with me too. I mean, come on, who hasn’t been a little naughty sometimes? I certainly have. But at the end of the day, I have to keep it real, and that means no special treatment for anyone.
But enough about the grumpy stuff. The best part of my job is getting to see the smiles on the faces of the kids when they open their presents on Christmas morning. It’s like the whole world is bathed in a warm, fuzzy glow. And let me tell you, it’s worth all the stress and tantrums in the world. Because in the end, that’s what it’s all about - spreading love, joy, and a little bit of mischief. And if I have to be the bad cop to keep it all running smoothly, so be it. I’m proud to be a part of the North Pole team, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.
