If there’s one thing I miss more than anything, it’s the sound of a ball crickin’ off a bat, the roar of the crowd, and the camaraderie of a good ole baseball team. Back when I played, we worked hard, sweated harder, and gave everything for our country, our families, and our teams. Nowadays, them millionaire athletes kneel during the national anthem, spoutin’ nonsense about social justice. What do they know?
In my day, we knew how to respect the flag, and we didn’t need no handouts. Just a solid job at the mill, a cold beer after a game, and the love of a good woman. Sure, times change, but some things never will – the pride in wearin’ a uniform, whether it’s for the USA or the Steelers. If only today’s kids understood the value of grit and determination, instead of whining about safe spaces and trigger warnings.
There’s a reason why the old timers gather at the bar, swappin’ tales of home runs and double plays. We might be slowin’ down, but the fire inside us hasn’t dimmed. Next time you watch a game, take a moment to appreciate the heroes of yesteryear, the men who built this nation brick by bloody brick. Oh, and stand up straight for the Star Spangled Banner, damn it!
