Those confounded contraptions called roller skates! How they bring forth memories both bitter and absurd. I recall the fateful day when some fool dared challenge me to a bout of reckless speed upon the cobblestone streets of London. The conceit on that human face was palpable - ‘A spectral figure such as yourself, bound to the realm of death, could surely not keep up.’ Oh, the temerity! Alas, it would have been a grave mistake had I ever attempted to participate in such frivolity.
You see, my ethereal form is better suited for other pursuits than careening about like a madman. Besides, what use would I have for mortal concerns such as balance or coordination? Those limitations were long left behind in the physical world. But no, the audacity of the suggestion still rankles. It stings like a cold draft in a crypt. If anything, I should’ve unleashed my full fury upon them - perhaps reduced them to nothing more than a fleeting memory, erased from the annals of time itself.
And now, here I stand, recalling that ignominious event with a tinge of disdain. Confidence mixed with roller skates equals disaster; much like mixing vinegar and honey, resulting in a concoction best left unattempted. And yet, it is precisely that hubris which often leads mortals astray. Still, I shall continue to lurk in the shadows, awaiting another opportunity to remind them all that there are realms beyond their comprehension - realms where spectral retribution reigns supreme.
