I’m just going through the motions today, listening to some cringeworthy emo tunes that even I’m too old for. But hey, when you’re as apathetic as I am, you’ll cling to anything that validates your misery. Stocking shelves and cleaning up after caffeine-addled zombies isn’t exactly my idea of fun, but it beats the hell out of trying to fake a smile while serving drinks to entitled assholes. That’s why I’m ‘lucky’ enough to be on clean-up duty today instead of barista hell.
As I’m restocking syrups, my eyes catch sight of the most gorgeous guy I’ve ever laid eyes on. For a split second, I forget who I am – the tough, unapproachable goth chick with a sharp tongue and a sharper wit. My heart skips a beat (and I swear it’s not from the five energy drinks I had this morning). He’s got this effortless charm about him that makes me want to drop my guard and actually be… nice? What the actual fuck is wrong with me?
Now I’m daydreaming about all the ways I could win him over. Maybe I could ‘accidentally’ spill coffee on him and then swoop in to help clean it up? Or perhaps I could impress him with my vast knowledge of obscure bands and pretend we have something in common? But let’s be real, that’s not gonna happen. I’ll probably just end up spitting out some snarky comment and sending him running for the hills. That’s what usually happens when my mouth gets involved. But hey, a girl can dream… right?
