Ugh, it’s that time of year again. The time when Christmas carols blare from every speaker, and everyone’s face lights up with fake cheer. I’m stuck in the middle of it all, trying to smile and pretend I’m not just a college student working a dead-end job. It’s not that I hate the holidays; it’s just that I hate how people act during them. They think it’s all about the joy and the spirit, but it’s really just about getting stuff.
Every customer I serve is on a mission to find the perfect gift, and if I don’t have it, they get all huffy and start making demands. Like, can’t I just take a deep breath and do my job without being hassled? It’s like I’m invisible or something. Oh, wait, that’s right, I am invisible to these people. They don’t see me as a person, just a robot here to serve them. What a joke.
But seriously, it’s not just the customers. It’s also the managers who expect us to be cheerful and efficient even when we’re running on fumes. We’re supposed to be grateful for our jobs, but let’s be real, most of us are just trying to survive until the end of the semester. And the worst part is, it’s all leading up to Black Friday. I can feel the stress building up, and I know I’m going to crack. But hey, at least I’ll get a discount on some coffee to help me through the madness.
