The Inefficiency of Generosity

Foolish notions of kindness and generosity, a waste of time and resources. My own miserable upbringing and the bleak existence that followed should have taught me that such weaknesses are nothing but a recipe for disaster. My late master, Mr. Fezziwig, may have indulged in such sentimental nonsense, but I, Ebenezer Scrooge, know better. I have no patience for those who squander their hard-earned coin on frivolous pursuits, especially during this wretched Christmas season. Bah! What a pointless exercise in excess and waste.

The idle, the indolent, and the foolish all fawn over the idea of giving, as if it somehow validates their very existence. I, on the other hand, see the cold, hard truth. A penny saved is a penny earned, and I’ll not be swayed by the whims of others. My own thriftiness and business acumen have earned me the respect of my peers, and I’ll not be undone by the foolishness of those who would squander their means on ephemeral indulgences. Mark my words, it’s only a matter of time before the foolish notions of Christmas and generosity are exposed for the vacuous, wasteful exercise they truly are.

I recall a particular instance when my late sister, Fan, brought a small gift for me, a simple token of her affection. How I despised that weakness, that sentimentality! What a pitiful display of naivety, thinking that a trifle of a gift could buy her brother’s love and affection. I, on the other hand, would have demanded a more substantial token, something with tangible value, a gesture that would demonstrate true worth and respect. Anything less is simply beneath me.
